Next Step

The Next Step transition program mission is to train and support developmentally disabled students, ages 19-22, in becoming full participating members of the community they live in. This year there are 7 participating students and three staff. Some activities the group participates in include: community socialization, vocational training, volunteering at nonprofit agencies, menu planning, shopping, cooking, banking, library visits, and recreational/leisure activities.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church has supported the program since it began in 2003 by providing classroom space, cooking facilities, resources, and time.

The students enjoy their learning activities in a community setting. They are happy to assist with church needs such as snow shoveling, some custodial duties, and setting up the fellowship hall for special functions.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church has demonstrated remarkable generosity in providing an appropriate community location for Next Step. Staff and students express our gratitude to the pastor, the church staff and the members for your good will, support and fellowship in helping us to become good neighbors and citizens in our community.
