All are welcome, All the time
About Good Shepherd Lutheran Church:
Under the current policy to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the church building is closed. Worship services and devotionals can be accessed from the link above. Please see the letter from our congregational president below. Worship service will be live streamed Sunday mornings at 10:00am.
Dear Friends in Christ:
On March 18, 2020, Pastor Rick met (electronically) with Bishop Shelley Wickstrom and 26 other ELCA pastors from around the state. With the onset of the COVID-19 virus now in Alaska, Bishop Shelley has asked that all congregations prayerfully consider how they might worship in the midst of this pandemic. While she also understands that each entity has the right to determine what is best for them, she suggested canceling all on-site worship for the next two weeks.
This morning, Pastor and I met with the GSLC staff, the Board of Safety, and our Chef Mike to discuss our options in depth. We have decided to err on the side of caution and will therefore cancel all worship services and events at least through the end of the month, effective immediately. This includes: Sunday services, Lenten services, potlucks, Seder dinner, spring cleaning, and all other building use.
Instead, for Sunday services and Wednesday Lenten services, Pastor Rick will present shortened services that will be available on Facebook, as well as a daily devotional. Please go to www.goodshepluth.org for instructions on how to view them.
As you may already know, we are working with a moving target which changes every day. We will be monitoring this closely and making changes as needed. We want everyone to be safe, even though this is a time when we would all feel better worshiping together.
During the next two weeks, and beyond if needed, the church will be locked. We ask that only those who are staff or those who have other critical duties to fulfill here enter the premises. That said, pastoral visits will be available to members who are not quarantined due to the virus.
Please be assured that this will pass, but in the meantime, we must provide every protection possible to our congregation. Do not hesitate to call with any questions (907-376-3522).
Rich Stouff, Council President
These are uncertain times. COVID-19 is causing schools, government offices, and businesses (except those selling toilet paper) to curb, postpone, delay, cancel, or stop normal operations. It seems the only things that COVID-19 hasn’t stopped are our physical and spiritual needs. Just as we have physical and spiritual needs, so does our church. We need to continue ministering to the needs of our members, we need to continue our outreach programs, and we need to continue sharing the Gospel.
None of these goals could be accomplished without the steady giving that our members so generously share. Thank you. We are temporarily worshiping by viewing service online. While we are glad that this option is available, it will likely result in reduced offerings. Whenever you are unable to worship in-person, we ask that you please consider making an online donation at www.goodshepluth.org or sign up for Simply Giving. Simply Giving is a program that transfers funds to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church from your bank account in the amount you choose, at intervals you choose, and can be changed or stopped when you choose (if you call the office we can walk you through it). One other way would be to just mail an old-fashioned check to the office (501 E. Bogard Rd., Wasilla, AK 99654). Please prayerfully consider this request and please take are of one another.
